Dad vs. Mom in Parenting…

August 9, 2014

dad vs

So it has occurred to me on a couple occasions how different my husband and I’s  thought patterns are in regards to our son. I’ve told my husband numerous times that I truly believe that when I became a mother I acquired this very special gift of seeing things happen 3 steps before it happens with my son. Unfortunately this gift really only applies to my son’s activities not so much in everyday life, but regardless it’s come in handy in many different situations. Take for instance when Ryan decided that he would climb the refrigerator…I think the comic speaks for itself…

Many translations of the word….No…

no

So Ryan is almost 10 months old and he is definitely attempting to push limits….Particularly with the dog bowls. I’m not 100% sure what to do when he gets his mind set on something and just won’t give up?

These are my solutions:

Saying “No” or “that’s yucky”: I’m not sure if he really understands what i’m saying or he is just fascinated by the reaction he is getting from me, or if he thinks I”m saying to “play more?” it’s still really up for debate…

Distraction: At this point I usually try to give him is favorite toy to play with in hopes he would forget all the fun he was having moments earlier, this usually works for about 20 seconds

Redirect: this is why I decide that just picking him up and moving him to a different location would help….but he can walk now…and he just walks right back to the spot I don’t want him to be

Loud Noise Distraction: This seems to work pretty good right now…We just got the iRobot Roomba 770 and I have to say that it is amazing! So much in fact that I did a little youtube video to show how well it works at picking up dust and pet hair!  Anyway, just like a lot of pre-toddlers they are not the biggest fan of motor noises, (blenders specifically) Anyway every time he goes for the dog bowl I just turn the robot on with my handy dandy remote and lets just say at this point I think he thinks that touching the dog bowl turns on the vacuum 🙂

I would love to hear what you do?

Another attempt…

I should have learned from the remote control, but this is 10x worse at decieving a baby. I have to admit he does like the toy, but given the choice he will always pick mommy’s laptop….
