Top Baby Registry Items Tips

June 19, 2013

Creating your baby registry can be a stressful process, especially if you never stepped foot in a full baby store. From all the advice I got on a baby registry the first thing you need to have is STRATEGY. And this goes from where you actual register to what you are registering for. I decided to register at buybuybaby because they have a great return policy and you can use 20% bed bath and beyond coupons which is AWESOME!   Not to mention the selection is amazing as well. Target is also another good option because there seems to be one on every corner so if you have a lot of “out of towners” it makes it easier for them to see the stuff they are buying you. Bottom line…Just don’t go in blind because its a  jungle out there!

I’ve been collecting some tidbits on my baby registry journey and I thought I would share them (a lot of this input came from my cousin….thank you! ) :

I’ve included the big items because you are going to need them, and they make great “group gifts”

Crib-

costco actually has a really nice set, with a changing table and dresser combo

Stroller –

Here are some great brands:

UppaBaby-easy to lock and unlock, adjustable height, great storage underneath,  but it’s a little pricey and kinda big

Britax-Most selling at buy buy baby, (this is the one we registered for) easy to fold up,  just click, lift, whoosh – done. It also has a click and go(which is different then a snap and go which the seat is actually removed and all your left with is a frame, I found out later), and it also makes a bassinet attachment!

Baby Jogger – I think this is the latest and greatest stroller, from what I hear from friends.  All of my friends that have it, love it.  It has large tires that you can go on rougher terrain with

Orbit – this is one of the most expensive options, but it is kind of cool because the seat pivots

Snap and go – pretty inexpensive,  it’s basically a frame that you buy the seat to snap into. You will need to have the sales person explain it to you but from what I read you can use a couple different brands of car seats, which could be a good feature.

Here is what you need to know about strollers- your stroller will be with you forever, but at first, you will remove the seat that it comes with and the infant car seat will snap into the stroller.  Most infant car seats will snap into most strollers, but you might need to buy special parts to make them fit.  I would pick your stroller first, then ask the sales rep to show you the most compatible infant car seat for the stroller you select.  Ask the sales person to show you: (1) how the car seat fits into the stroller, (2) how the car seat comes out of the stroller and (3) how the stroller breaks down to put into a trunk.  These are the 3 things that you should look at, as they will make your life easier (or more difficult) depending on how complicated the contraptions are.  Just imagine yourself with a screaming newborn in the target parking lot trying to go through the steps of moving the kid from the stroller to the car and then breaking down the stroller – the easier, the better.

Once the kid moves on from the infant car seat, then you transition to the toddler seat (after maybe 9 months).  The toddler seat should come with the stroller you purchase.  At this phase, your kid will have a separate toddler car seat, so you will move your kid from the toddler car seat to the stroller seat.  When they show you the strollers, they usually show you the toddler seat, but it’s important to understand how the infant seat works with the stroller because that is what you will be using first.

Car seat –

I don’t think the car seat selection should be as confusing or time consuming – all the new car seats are safe.  Just pick one that is compatible with your stroller and if you need a tie breaker, pick the lighter car seat or one with the higher safety rating (which the sales person can tell you).

A few other items in that section you might want to register for: car mirror and clip fan.

Monitor –

I looked at several but I really fell in love it the motorola monitor with the large screen. You can pan tilt the camera and it has a talk back feature. My cousin has the I have the summer infant monitor and she loves as well.  There are cool things you can get for your i-phone – cameras that go right to your phone.  However, my friends that have this say that they don’t always work well.  I would get a regular monitor and later on (once you figure out your babysitting situation) you can get another type of monitor that will let you monitor the kid from anywhere.

Digital Thermometer- I hear when you are a new parent and your child is sick this can be really beneficial to have this thermometer.

Swing

Highchair-even though you won’t need this for a while they say to include it on the registry so you have record of what you want in the future.

Some smaller items that are great for registry:

Blankets- I hear you can’t have enough of these

Burp Clothes-And you definitely can’t have enough of these

Dishwasher bottle washers or items that make dishwashing all those little accessories easier

Hopefully this helps! I would love to hear your strategy!

Over-Active tear ducts….

June 17, 2013

So I was pretty impressed with myself that I actually found a “father-to-be card” for fathers day and every time I would read the darn thing I would get all teary eyed and then when I saw him reading it I got all teary eyed, and then when I thought about him as a father I would get teary eyed. It was a never ending cycle really. It’s been incredibly hard to control my tear ducts these days. Pretty much anything can set it off, and it can get a little embarrassing especially when the waterfalls come on over something as small as a commercial, especially the one with lost puppies that need homes. Now don’t get me wrong, I’m not bothered by it,  I just thought I would share it especially since it  can be a little funny when it catches my husband by surprise every now and again 🙂

How to get rid of stretch marks?!?

June 13, 2013

So I thought I was going to be one of the lucky ones that didn’t get stretch marks….nope…It’s actually pretty depressing and i’m really hoping they fade. It looks like a cat crawled up my chest 🙁  So I bought this organic oil of sorts Earth Mama Angel Baby Natural Stretch Oil, 4-Ounce Bottle for pregnant and breast feeding ladies and I use it with Aveeno Eczema Therapy Moisturizing Cream, 7.3 Ounce and actually think the stretch marks are fading?

Now you can do laser treatments that help but I was looking for more of natural way, so I found a couple tips from various websites:

From: http://www.babycenter.com/404_how-can-i-get-rid-of-stretch-marks_2432.bc

I use Tummy Butter from a company my friends recommended called THE SPOILED MAMA (www.thespoiledmama.com). The stuff works wonders on my stretch marks and smells good to, I found that for my skin this works really well(normally really dry)especially in winter. Their products are mostly organic and free from parabens, mineral oil and synthetic fragrances…and palmers in full of that stuff(parabens, mineral oil)!! Many over the counter cheap stuff is filled with cheap ingerdients…it’s worth the price to spend more . The company also offers a stretch mark oil that works great too, I still use it even though I am not pregnant as an after shower oil. At their website they awnser alot of questions on their FAQ’s page…Hope this helps…

From: http://www.wikihow.com/Get-Rid-of-Stretch-Marks

here are some highlights….

Use a moisturizer. A study comparing herbal moisturizers found that people who lotioned-up daily showed significant improvement in skin appearance and elasticity [2]. Think of it this way: if your skin has a lot of stretching to do, it’s less likely to tear and create stretch marks if it’s hydrated.

Try Vitamin E oil. Vitamin E oil is often said to be the miracle cure for stretch marks, though one study shows that it’s most effective on women who have already been pregnant before, and has not been effective in general use [10]. Still, it can’t hurt in moderate doses.

Increase your Vitamin C intake. One dermatologist suggests that 500 mg of Vitamin C, taken as an oral supplement, can help reduce the appearance of stretch marks[11].

From: http://www.top10homeremedies.com/how-to/how-to-get-rid-of-stretch-marks-fast.html

here are some highlights…

Potato Juice: The best and easiest way to get rid of ugly stretch marks is to use potato juice which contains vitamins and minerals which help a lot in the growth and restoration of the skin cells. Take a medium sized potato and cut it into thick slices. Now take one of the potato pieces and rub it gently on the skin with stretch marks for a few minutes. Make sure the liquid from the potato pieces get in touch with the skin. Allow the potato juice to dry for some time and later on clean the skin with lukewarm water.

White Sugar: Natural white sugar is one of the best ingredients to get rid of stretch marks. You can use sugar for exfoliating your skin. Take a tablespoon of raw sugar and add some almond oil and few drops of lemon juice to it. Mix it properly and apply it on the stretch marks and other skin areas. Now gently rub the skin for at least ten minutes every day before taking a shower. When this exfoliating routine is followed for a month or so, the stretch marks will become light.

Im curious to know if anyone was tried any of these remedies?

What worked for you? or what have you heard that works? I’m all ears!

How to know if you are in denial?

June 10, 2013

Are you in denial about maternity clothes? Did you have to raid your husband’s closet to find something to wear today? Do you think Kim Kardashian’s maternity clothes look great on her?If the answer to these question is yes…then you my friend are in denial. And its okay, we all transition at different times and at our own comfort level, but seriously what is the big deal? You are pregnant at this point and wearing maternity clothes is not going to change that fact. So the pants are a little weird at first with the little belly thing…just think of it as pants with built in spanks (that are broken).  And really, maternity clothes are suppose to make you look better! I found this great article Dress your Bump without the Frump and pulled a pic so you could see…

How to subscribe to a blog that has feedburner?

June 10, 2013

So it’s come to my attention that some people don’t know how to subscribe to a blog or they don’t know why they should. I chose feedburner because it’s one of the safest email subscriptions out there and you won’t receive spam (which I hate). And the reason why you should subscribe via email is because even though we are connected through facebook you may miss some really cool posts of new comics or progress.  This way you get an update email when I’ve posted something new, which is about once a week, which is pretty cool!

So I decided to break it down step by step so you know what to do, i’m going to assume you are already on my blog because you are reading this post 🙂

Okay, here we go!

Enter your email address, then click submit! BUT YOU ARE NOT DONE….this is where people get confused you NEED to verify your address via email and I will walk you through that.

You’ll receive this…type in the little code

Once you do it correctly you will receive this, YOU ARE STILL NOT DONE….

Then you will receive an email verifying the email is correct…it should look like this

Once you click on the email it will ask you to click on the link

And then you are DONE! see that was easy! And thank you sooooooo much for subscribing!
